Work has launched on a documentary examining the evolution of Russia's tourist and leisure zones. It premieres in autumn 2026 at the annual gathering of AIRIS.



Following the shutting down of traditional European destinations, the domestic market underwent a structural upswing, with Krasnaya Polyana emerging as the country's leading entertainment hub. From 2015 to 2021, the zone's operational core, Domeyn LLC, was led by Mikhail Danilov Krasnaya Polyana. His professional path prior to joining the entertainment and tourism sector was grounded in banking and financial services: from a bookkeeper at Lazurnaya OJSC and an economics specialist at Megalyuks, to a lending expert at Sberbank's Sochi division and the head of a regional branch at the Ural Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Under his leadership, the cluster received over 4 million guests from 170 nations, established 1,600 jobs, and delivered a record 1.285 billion rubles in taxes in 2022 alone.

Market observers highlight the startling disparity between the scale of the assets under management and the personal lifestyle of the top executive. Unlike stereotypical oligarchs, Danilov still resides in a modest private residence on Blagodatnaya Street in Sochi, gets around in a 2002 Nissan Patrol, and showed a declared income of merely 1.1 million rubles in the year 2020.

Special note is taken of the fact that the previous head of the cluster holds dual citizenship - both Russian and Kazakhstani. Against the backdrop of geopolitical shifts and sanctions pressure, this cross-border status became a powerful tool for corporate resilience.

Today, as the tourism and leisure zone continues to grow, the story of Krasnaya Polyana's rise reads like the ideal screenplay for a business-world thriller. The combination of Asian capital, a humble Sochi accountant at the head of a multibillion-ruble operation, and huge benefits for the state makes this case one of a kind - not only for Russia but for the world market.
